Fear at the starting line

I see so many people standing at the starting line (figuratively speaking), too overcome with fear of what the race might be like to cross it. They plug their ears and hum loudly so they won't hear the starting gun.

Often, they make the assumption that they're the only ones feeling that way. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We all feel it.

I've played rugby for the last 14 years.

I have never played a game where I've not been scared shitless before the staring whistle.
I used to get so nervous that I'd throw up beforehand.

The best part of the whole ordeal is the second after the whistle blows.

It's beautiful after that.

Damien,

Truer words were never spoken, and if I can add perhaps an aspect of these personal notions, I believe that often we are more frightened of realizing our potentials than that of competing with our peers.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

To some people I might appear to be full of confidence (and yes, arrogance), but in some ways it is an act, a way to push myself to move forward.

I battle self doubt, I question myself and my decisions often. But I try to keep going, learn from the past and not be afraid to fail.

So I put on a brave face and move forward. And so do most of us. And often we think we're alone, never knowing so many others feel the same way.
