Jan's CouchDb Talk

Jan gives a talk about CouchDb in Zurich and it gets a very good response. Here is the content of the talk.

Jan really provoked an interesting discussion. One thing Jan didn't mention is how the "killer app" space for CouchDb just might be in relation to Amazon's web services (EC2, S3, SQS etc.) and / or data analysis / warehousing.

We've got another speaker next week talking about how he uses them for doing "map reduce" analysis on a lot of data - will drop link to slides if I remember. And a blog which may provoke ideas - http://joyeur.com/2007/06/20/why-ec2-isnt-yet-a-platform-for-normal-web-applications

There might just be a compelling use case for CouchDB there somewhere - something you really can't do with a normal DB.

Heya Harry,
I wanted to save that for a later post :-)
It sounded like a really nice idea when we talked about it in Zurich, but now I kinda don't know. A problem could be that I don't know of any non-custom apps that actually make use of S3 and could benefit from a local copy of the data. If we could envision such an application, that'd be great. Any ideas? ;-)

And that might be one reason why S3 & E2 will never be more than a playground or backup service: http://radar.oreilly.com/archives/2007/06/amzon_ec2_and_s.html
Maybe that's one direction to pursue.
